Corporate social responsibility

Acting responsibly as a business is not an optional extra. The need for sustainability and ethical practices is critical, especially in today’s fast moving and increasingly unpredictable business environment.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can and should govern every aspect of business life. The principles of Corporate Social Responsibility, sustainability and citizenship are reflected throughout Business & Decision’s long-standing business practices. To achieve high levels of Corporate Social Responsibility we focus on three priority areas:

We recognise the importance of our employees’ contribution to the success of the Company and strive to provide a supportive working environment for all employees.

Our values, in combination with social responsibility and ethics, ensure that everyone we work with is valued, treated fairly and shown respect. We uphold the values of honesty, partnership and equality in our relationships with all stakeholders.

Making a positive difference to the communities in which we operate

We aim to contribute positively to the different societies in which we live and work, and take a holistic approach to aspects such as diversity, education and environmental conduct, as well as involvement in community activities. We actively support and encourage our employees to help local community organisations and activities where they work and live. For example, the Irish Chaplaincy in Britain (ICBB); The core objective is to help repatriate Irish residents in Britain. Business & Decision contributes to the cause by donating clothing.

Business & Decision is also a proud supporter of sport and the benefits it can have on lives.  We work closely with our brand ambassador, Kyran Bracken (former England Rugby Union International) to promote and encourage school children to get involved with sport.

In December 2010, we sponsored Kyran Bracken to host a session, ‘Being the best you can be’ at Queen Elizabeth School and Sports College. The objective of the session was to ‘Empower students through sport’. The key messages centred on the importance of perseverance, managing distractions, dedication, education and training and emphasised that anything is possible with goals. The format included a presentation to 20 students, followed by a group exercise to teach ball handling and teamwork skills.

Respecting the environment

We recognise that as a company we have a responsibility to act in a way that respects the environment. As such, we are committed to managing our processes, materials and people to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. We promote environmental awareness amongst staff and recycling where possible. The main objectives of our Environmental Policy are to:

  • Investigate the reduction in use of environmentally damaging substances and processes
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle waste and packaging
  • Improve the efficiency of energy usage.
