SAP BW / BI Planning Consultants

Business & Decision are looking to complement their BI team with experienced SAP BW / BI Planning Consultants - for roles from Consultant to Technical Leads to work on amongst other projects, one of the UK's largest SAP BI 7.0 implementations.

Opportunities exist at Business & Decision's London office.

Successful candidates will get the opportunity to progress technically or managerially towards SAP BI Architects, SAP NetWeaver Architects or Project Managerial levels, while associating themselves with some of the most knowledgeable BI people in the industry. This is a unique opportunity to work with a Major BI focused consultancy and working on bleeding edge technology on end-to-end SAP BI implementation projects.

Necessary Skills:

  • The candidates should have completed at least one full lifecycle in SAP BPS/ IP and SAP BW implementation.
  • Technical Leads should have at least 4 years hands on experience in SAP BI including BPS or IP.
  • Hands on BW data warehousing skills are essential.
  • Business knowledge and understanding of structures and processes in planning is essential.
  • Skills in ABAP / Customer Exits is essential
  • Certification in SAP BW 3.5 or SAP BI 7.0 is desirable but not a necessity.

SAS Consultant

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all client work under direction of Project Leader/Team Leader
  • Engage in analysis, development, documentation, testing, implementation, training and support activities as directed
  • Communicate progress / status to project leader or client
  • Participate in site visits with Technical Account Manager
  • Preparation of Project review documents as directed
  • Participation in project review meetings as required

Technical Competencies:

  • Getting data in and out of SAS
  • Manipulation of SAS data (including Proc SQL)
  • Basic understanding of SAS procedures
  • Be able to code macro procedures and use macro variables
  • ODS
  • Running SAS in a production environment
  • Concept of automating code
  • Formats (including user-defined)

Internal Responsibilities:

  • Complete required administrative tasks on time
  • Participate in company/technical meetings
  • Attend internal and external training and development events, workshops and skills transfer sessions as required
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry / technology developments under guidance of Technical Management
  • Liaise with Sales, Marketing, Finance and HR functions as required

Experience/Qualifications:

Consultants must have a minimum of 2 years exposure/experience of SAS; experience of building and implementing SAS Data warehouses and/or using SAS for Analysis. In addition SAS Consultants should have experience in one or more of the following industry sectors: financial services, telecommunications or retail. Good client facing skills and commercial awareness is also required.

A Computer/Maths/Statistics/Operational Research, or a Business based degree is an advantage.

All Consultants will be required to travel and work on clients sites therefore mobility and flexibility is essential.

Senior SAS Consultant

Candidates must be adaptable to working on a wide range of projects across several market sectors. 
All Consultants will be required to travel and work on clients sites therefore mobility and flexibility are essential.  Good client facing and communication skills, the ability to work independently and commercial awareness are also required.  Senior consultants will take responsibility for running projects and optionally managing a team but may also earn the title of senior through strong technical skills.

General Responsibilities:       

  • Conduct all client work either under direction of Project Leader/Team Leader
  • Organise and attend site visits (with Technical Account Manager if required)
  • Business/Technical Consultancy (as consultant but in addition):
  • o Provide technical expertise to all phases of a project
  • o Support junior staff during all phases ensuring best practice is adhered to
  • Contribute to proposal process
  • Be aware of potential new business and provide leads to account managers.

Responsibilities when managing projects (conduct client work as the Project Leader):

  • Manage and perform project analysis - run requirements meetings, design and document solutions from requirements, manage communication with client until agreement to proceed is reached.
  • Manage development - ensure that coders write efficient, commented and well laid out SAS programs from a specification or design document or from requirements. Ensure high quality of work from others. Manage own time and project tasks. Manage client expectations and change control.
  • Manage testing.
  • Manage implementation.
  • Manage training and support activities as directed.
  • Documentation - take responsibility for creation of technical documentation e.g. design documents, program specifications and system documentation and ensure quality assurance is done.
  • Communicate progress / status to client and maintain day to day relationship
  • Identify and manage risks and issues
  • Preparation or delegation of project review documents
  • Run project review meetings as required
  • Assist senior staff in ensuring that the project runs to plan (provide estimates, monitor progress and costs, communicate status internally).

General technical competencies (as consultant but in addition):

  • Best practice either generally and/or within specialist area
  • Efficiency considerations either generally and/or within specialist area

Core Technical Skills for Non-Managing Senior Consultants:

  • Be seen as an expert in technical areas in addition to Base SAS e.g SAS App Dev Studio, ETL Studio, Java, VB
  • Experience of using SAS on a variety of cross-platform computing environments e.g. UNIX, MVS, PC
  • Experience of accessing a variety of data sources from within SAS
  • Desired: experience of query and analytical tools, relational database use and design, data warehousing concepts and design

Internal Responsibilities:

  • Manage own time by assessing priority of multiple tasks / projects
  • Proactively mentor others
  • Provide feedback on peers/juniors to the review process
  • Attend internal and external training and development events, workshops and skills transfer sessions as required
  • Contribute to internal workshops
  • Participate in company/technical meetings
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry / technology developments
  • Liaise with Sales, Marketing, Finance and HR functions as required
  • Complete required administrative tasks on time

Support Network:

  • Participate in personal development review process to jointly (with line manager) assess previous work, define new goals and plan training
  • Take responsibility for consulting subject matter experts within B&D when required
  • Utilise technical support mailing lists and technical sections of the company intranet

Experience/Qualifications:

Senior Consultants will ideally have an in depth exposure/experience of SAS.  Experience of building and implementing SAS Data warehouses and/or using SAS for Analysis, an understanding of systems development methodologies and an awareness of project management principles would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

  • Shadow on client site under the direction of a Consultant
  • Complete a training project
  • Participate in Technical training as part of the Graduate programme

Business Objects Consultant

Consultancy Responsibilities:

  • Oracle
  • Microsoft SQL Server

  • Data Warehouse design and dimensional modelling.
  • Knowledge of ETL and possibly exposure to Business Objects Data Integrator
  • Good SQL skills
  • Cognos report net
  • Oracle
  • Microsoft SQL Server and Analysis Services

In addition Consultants should have experience in one or more of the following industry sectors: financial services, telecommunications or retail. Plus have good client facing skills and commercial awareness.
